Gyz La Rivière (Rotterdam, 1976) studied fashion design at the Willem de Kooning Academy. In 2000, he graduated as the first student in the history of his school without a collection. In 2002, he was awarded the Rotterdam Maaskant Prize. In 2011, he received 'The Praise of Folly' Honorary Pin from the Comité Erasmus and in early 2013 he won the Dolf Henkes Prize for iconic Rotterdam-based artists.
In 2009, he directed 12 - a film about the Fret Click, in 2013 the film Rotterdam 2040 and in 2020 the film New Neapolis. Recently he published Rome'dam (2016) and New Neapolis - No Structure (2017) and now his latest book Home Video (2021) will be released in JOEY RAMONE.
La Rivière has exhibited wide and his films have screened all over the world. Solo-exhibitions include: TENT (Rotterdam, 2020), Cokkie Snoei (Rotterdam, 2008), Showroom MAMA (Rotterdam, 2000, 1997), a.o. Group exhibitions include: Museum Rotterdam (2019), Roodkapje (Rotterdam, 2012), Kunsthal (Rotterdam, 2012), Kunstraum Niederoesterreich (Vienna, 2008), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, (Rotterdam, 2004), De Vleeshal (Middelburg, 2001), a.o. La Rivière's works are featured in various collections such as the Collection of the Museum Voorlinden, the Collection of the Hogeschool Rotterdam, Museum Rotterdam and in the possession of various private collectors.
La Rivière is based in Rotterdam.
